TEDDY is the musical alias of artist, filmmaker, and producer Edward Symes, whose work seamlessly blends haunting baritone vocals, cinematic storytelling, and a deep reverence for the raw, unfiltered edge of outsider art. Originally emerging as a member of the avant garde FRONTRUNNER Collective in the late 00’s, TEDDY first gained recognition in the underground music world for his evocative songwriting, which explores themes of longing, darkness, and redemption. Drawing influence from Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits, his music fuses elements of indie folk, blues, and art rock, creating a sound both intimate, immersive, and unique.
TEDDY’s multidisciplinary approach to art is what sets him apart. His Amazon Prime award-winning visual album Black Magic Piano (2018) pushed the boundaries of music and film, weaving together ethereal compositions with striking, noir-inspired cinematography. Created in collaboration with composer Doran Danoff and dance choreographer Elizabeth Wilkinson, the project received acclaim for its innovative storytelling and genre-defying aesthetic.
Beyond his solo work, TEDDY has collaborated with Jon LaDeau, composing for film, art, and multimedia installations. Whether performing on stage or crafting atmospheric compositions, his work consistently explores the intersection of sound and image, offering audiences a deeply immersive experience.
Currently, TEDDY is touring solo and as a duo, continuing to push the boundaries of what music can be. With a relentless commitment to artistry and a fearless approach to experimentation, TEDDY remains a singular voice in contemporary music, challenging conventions while staying true to his raw, cinematic vision.
